In our North Vancouver office, we offer Diode dental laser, also known as Soft tissue dental laser. This type of laser is used to perform a wide range of dental procedures on the gums and soft-tissues more comfortably.
Less bleeding and swelling in soft tissue (gum) procedures
Due to its conservative, gentle cutting action and coagulating capabilities, Diode dental laser performs many soft tissue (gum) procedures with little or no bleeding and less swelling than with traditional surgical procedures.
Frenum, by definition is a fold of soft tissue or mucous membrane that secures or restricts movement. In the mouth there are frena of the lips that extend from the gums to the mid-line of the lower or upper lip, and the frenum of the tongue, that extends from the floor of the mouth to the midline of the underside of the tongue.*
Frenectomy of the lips are performed in certain cases after the orthodontics to avoid spacing between of the upper or lower central incisors.
Frenectomy of the tongue is indicated when it interferes with speech (lisping in children) or even sucking in infants.
- Cosmetic contouring of the gum tissue
- Crown lengthening (removing gum and bone to expose more tooth)
- Periodontal therapy (Reduction of the pockets in gum disease)
- Excision of minor growths and biopsies
- Apthous ulcer treatment
The use of diode laser in these cases virtually eliminates anaesthesia, and there is no need to use a scalpel. Since a scalpel is not used, there is virtually no bleeding and the recovery is quick.
*Frenectomy, by definition, is the reduction of the size of the frenum by excision.
